30 Jul Waiting
Imagine if your boss asked you to go work in a distant city that you had never visited. He describes the city and the work, and you are excited to go! So you prepare–pack, make arrangements–and board a plane to fly there. Then, just as you approach the city the pilot says, “Well folks, the airport isn’t open currently, so we’re going to circle. We’re not sure if we’ll be up here for an hour, a day, or a week.” Imagine your fears and disappointment. Of course, this is just an analogy, but it is where we feel like we are. We can see that the end is in sight, but we’re waiting. Why is it so hard to wait? For us, it’s the anticipation of what’s to come, the uncertainties and unknowns, and the need to learn to trust God and recognize that we’re not in control.
We still need the house to sell, and we’re not in control of that. We need to finish raising funding, and while we have a part to play, we’re not in control of that either. Yesterday’s reading from Oswald Chambers reminded us that while we think the goal is to get to FamilyLife as quickly as possible, God’s goal is the process and our progress. Pray that we would be still, waiting on Him and His perfect timing, and grow in the meantime.
