Are you being refreshed? Are you an encouragement?

Are you being refreshed? Are you an encouragement?

This morning as part of my New Testament Survey Class with Campus Crusade I decided to Journal on a scripture, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ who was preached to you before…”  Acts 3:19-20

I am reminded how much I neglect time in the Word and in prayer.  I rob time from God.  I know that if I would only spend time learning about Him and spending time with Him that He will refresh and encourage me.  I know that He will give me hope and that He will grow and stretch my faith!

A couple of hours later I noticed two things….I had received an email from a friend whom I ministered to while with Crown Ministries.   She took time to encourage me as we wait for our house in Topeka to sell so that we can move to our new assignment with FamilyLife in Little Rock, AR.   Then, I happened on a devotional in my inbox about refreshment and encouragment from the Lord.

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint”  Jer 31:25

“I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to me will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty”  Jn 6:35

First, I was incredibly blessed to receive this simple email that a friend used to remind me how I had ministered to her, how the Lord used me and second, I am reminded that if I want to encourage others I must be rooted in God’s Word-I must be refreshed by Him!

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” Proverbs 11:24

I have to ask myself, Do I allow the Lord to regularly refresh me so that I can in turn refresh others in Christ?

I am presented with a challenge–of course it’s important for me to be refreshed by the Lord but this isn’t just for me.  I must do so also to be able to minister to others.

Are you making an investment with the Lord so that He can refresh you?  And, so He can use you to encourage and refresh others?
